Sikh Wedding Traditions

The Anand Karaj ceremony takes place in a Gurdwara or any venue where the Guru Granth Sahib is ceremonially installed. The couple sits before the holy scripture as the Granthi (priest) explains the duties of married life. The bride holds one end of a scarf (palla) tied to the groom as they walk around the Guru Granth Sahib four times, each circuit accompanied by the recitation of a Lavaan hymn. The ceremony concludes with the Anand Sahib (hymn of bliss) and Ardas, followed by the distribution of Karah Prasad.
